About > Jennifer Buehler
Although Jennifer has been cooking since she was a child in Independence, Missouri, she didn't make her way to culinary school until after a detour selling computers and a short stint in the catering business. After graduating from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, she jetted through an internship and sous chef position before landing at Lauro.
Lauro's Mediterranean inspired menu is both a joy and a challenge for Buehler, who has endless options to choose from among the vastly different cuisines. Her challenge as chef, she says, is to stay true to each region's culinary traditions. Buehler draws inspiration from the food and ingredients themselves. She also finds inspiration from co-workers and friends who cook and the discoveries she makes at other restaurants. As a chef, she rarely if ever, turns off that creative front burner, wondering over every new dish she experiences, how to put her own twist on it.
Comfort food for Buehler is a far cry from Lauro's sophisticated fare. A bacon and egg cheeseburger with 1,000 Island Dressing hits the spot. And, a little closer to her work-a-day cooking – she likes to tuck into an "old school" Italian dinner of creamy noodles and wine, finished off with a nice tiramisu.
When she pulls herself away from the kitchen, Beuhler hangs out with friends, has been known to appear at a karaoke bar here and there, and has a passion for traveling. She dreams of warmer climes where she can get back into scuba diving.
