Now is the Winter of our Content
With the holidays fast approaching, thoughts turn to cozy winter nights with great meals spread out across the table, surrounded by friends, colleagues and family. Lauro sous chefs Chris and Ray have been hard at work — searching out the best local, seasonal products to work their magic into delicious new starters, pizzas and entrees. And the bar staff has crafted some creative new cocktails, all in celebration of a new holiday season. The Williamette Week Restaurant Guide for 2011 is out and we're thrilled that eight years on, we are still drawing raves.
New Dishes for Fall
Brined Pork Chop with Runner Beans and
Brandy Plum Sauce
|
For starters we're serving a very smooth and classic Catalan Onion and Almond Soup, and we're roasting a Pancetta-wrapped radicchio with Balsamic vinegar, Parmesan and pine nuts.
Two fall salads are lighting up the menu: the crisp Cafe Salad of endive, apple, French Blue Cheese with hazlenuts — a Lauro classic, and a new, Moroccan inspired Roasted Beets Salad with oranges, watercress, walnuts and spiced yogurt.
For you serious epicureans, be sure to try the succulent Brined Pork Chop with runner beans and brandy plum sauce, or the Moussaka of Roasted Eggplant, spiced lentils and sauce Bechamel. Both dishes are nourishing cold weather fare.
Modern meets tradition at the pizza & pasta station, with a seasonally inspired Pumpkin Mascarpone Ravioli with Chanterelles and Sage Butter, and a dreamy Roasted Apple, caramelized onion, blue cheese and arugula pizza.

Lauro is Comfy & Classy
Willamette Week's Restaurant Guide for 2011
Writes Becky Ohlsen from the Willamette Week's recent Restaurant Guide:
"With the feel of a cozy neighborhood joint, plus chef-owner David Machado's downtown pedigree, Lauro pulls off the tricky feat of being both homey and fancy. A reliable favorite is the immense New York steak, served on a bed of kale with roasted potatoes and topped with a béarnaise sauce that might damn well make you weep."

One Last Thing
Just a reminder that chef David Machado owns and operates two sister restaurants, the Indian themed Vindalho, in Southeast Portland and the Riviera inspired Nel Centro, located in downtown Portland adjacent to the Hotel Modera. Having you join us for dinner would make this season that much brighter.
